8 Airports, 1 Channel, and The Swamp

In the last 36 hours, the immediate family has passed through eight airports. This may be some kind of record. Coordinating flights with adult children living in different states reaches new levels of strategic planning. Yet we all manage to meet up on time at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Grandma was rather worried that Caroline, who was rescheduled twice and once to Orly, would not make it. She wanted visual proof.

I have to say, I think we look about as good as one can on just a couple of hours sleep.

Our guide Francis picked us up and headed to Cabourg. Rumor has it there was a celebrity at the hotel for the Cabourg Film Festival. Although we never saw this mystical person, we sure did enjoy walking the red carpet.

A lovely reception and dinner where Abigail (10) held court with the 20 somethings. That is probably just the beginning. More stories are sure to come.  On a side note, 2 glasses (may have been 3) of champagne was a nice way to end the day.

Off to Arromanches to where the the Mulberrys (artificial harbors) were set up and then onto Longues-sur-Mer for the German Gun Batteries. Finishing the day at Bayeux.

In the interim, I have managed to flood the bathroom. Yes, I do have a degree in mechanical engineering, but sometimes which knob control which part of the shower is not intuitive.  John has named the bathroom "The Swamp."

  1. Our hotel in Munich simply had a drain in the middle of the floor and didn't pretend the water would stay in the shower. Europeans simply assume Americans won't understand their plumbing and make accommodations.
